This is a small Japanese yakitori restaurant located in the heart of Shanghai. The site features a narrow entrance with an elongated spatial depth, gradually distancing itself from the bustling street outside and transitioning into a secluded, almost otherworldly retreat. Within the dimly lit interior, materials such as charred wood, aged timber, clay walls, bamboo, and weathered steel are thoughtfully employed to create a textured wabi-sabi environment. By intentionally lowering the overall lighting and softening spatial contours, the design encourages diners to detach from daily distractions and the passing of time—focusing instead on the enjoyment of exquisite food and meaningful conversations. Crafting such a calm and immersive dining experience was the central intention behind this design.
